Program Pre- and Post-Testing

(TABE®: Test of Adult Basic Education)

All new students to the program will complete one of the TABE® tests. Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency students will complete the TABE® 11/12. Students enrolling in our English as a Second Language program complete the TABE® CLAS-E. New students must complete the pre-test before they can register for courses.

The TABE® pre-test helps the student and program to understand what the student already knows and the skills they will need to work on first. Student scores will be at one of 6 levels in reading, language, and mathematics. This level is used to place the student into the right course.

Once students have completed 40 hours of coursework or attendance, they are eligible to complete a TABE® post-test. This is an exciting opportunity for the student to see how their work is paying off. If the student has made progress in their class they may see a “level gain”. Once a student’s scores reach level 5 or 6 they can begin taking our High School Equivalency courses to begin preparing for either the GED® or HiSet® test.
